Delaware College Preparatory Academy Board of Directors welcomes Mr. Howard Johnson as the new Executive Director.

Mr. Johnson comes to us with a wealth of relevant experience that demonstrates his proficiency in school leadership with exemplary student achievement.  He has superior interpersonal communication skills and approaches problems and issues in a thoughtful, non-judging, strategic manner that encourages openness and proactive engagement from his team.   Mr. Johnson has an incredible gift of negotiating win-win situations by being able to quickly assess what motivates people and eliminating unintentional barriers that could prevent his team and/or students from performing their best.

Mr. Howard Johnson
started his professional career in New Castle County schools in roles that ranged from teaching Science, teaching Horticulture, being a student advisor and eventually an interim Principal.  After 16 years in serving our community, Mr. Johnson relocated to North Carolina to work for the local Department of Education.  From there, he served as Assistant Principal in local counties in Raleigh, Durham and in Roxboro, NC.  And finally, in 2003, Mr. Johnson returned to the Mid-Atlantic area, after becoming Principal at Smedley Middle School in Pennsylvania.  Mr. Johnson’s success in turning around low performing schools made him a desired leader to help improve schools in local communities.  In 2009, Mr. Johnson accepted the role as Principal at Pleasantville High School in Pleasantville, NJ where he quickly became known as the turnaround leader, known for creating a “Culture Change” – improving urban schools.  In less than 24 months, under his stewardship, Pleasantville High met its Adequate Yearly Progress target for the first time in 8 years
