1. Do I have to pay tuition and if so what is the cost?
We are a tuition-free, public charter school with a college preparatory focus.
2. What are your grade configurations?
During the 2010-2011 school year, we will serve elementary students in grades K-3. We will grow a grade each year until we reach Grade 5.
3. In what grades are you currently enrolling?
In the 2010-2011 school year, we will accept applications for grades K, 1 and 2. Our 3rd grade class will consist of Scholars who are already currently enrolled in 2nd grade.
4. Are you an all boys or all girls school?
No. We are co-ed and therefore accept applications for both male and female scholars.
5. What steps do I need to take to enroll my child?
New parents must complete and submit a signed 2010-2011 enrollment application for each child they intend to enroll in the Academy. Children will be enrolled on a first-come, first-serve basis unless a public lottery is required. Parents will be notified of their enrollment status throughout the enrollment period. Due to the strong interest in our program and our small size, it is recommended that you submit your enrollment application(s) as soon as possible.
6. Is there an application deadline?
Yes. Applications must be submitted by Friday, January 29, 2010 to be included in our public lottery. Applications may be submitted through September 30, 2010. Applications submitted after the deadline will be placed on the waitlist until a seat becomes available.
7. Are there any pre-screening requirements?
No. Scholars will be assessed academically after an enrollment decision has been determined.
8. Is bus transportation available?
Yes. Bus transportation is available throughout New Castle County including Wilmington, Claymont, New Castle, Newark, and Bear.
9. Do you provide breakfast or lunch?
Yes. We have a school nutrition program which includes breakfast, lunch and two snacks. Free and reduced lunch applications are available.
10. Are your teachers certified?
Yes. We hire teachers who are certified to teach in Delaware or another state in which Delaware grants reciprocity. We also ensure that our teachers are 'Highly Qualified' in elementary education.
11. What are your teacher-student ratios?
We use a two-teacher model in grades K-2. On average our student-teacher ratios are 1 teacher to 15 Scholars.
12. How can I get additional information about your school?
Please join us at our next information sessions: Weds., March 10, 2010 from 6-7 p.m. and Sat., March 20, 2010 from 10-11. Information sessions will be held at Delaware College Prep. Academy (modular campus), 510 West 28th Street, Wilmington, DE 19802. Please enter parking lot from Monroe Street, behind Christ Our King school.
